If it's good enough for Salma....

"I have a farm and I love it there. There's really nothing to do there, but even watching the chickens, it's fun." ~ Salma Hayek

Good Buys

July 25
While talking a little weekend trip with the family, I stumbled upon a small town flea market. It was at a little town park, the kind where anyone can just show up on Saturday and set up a table. I spent a total of $13 and got three very cool pieces. One even seems "meant to be."
I got both of these at the same table. The Wagner Ware metal scoop is from the 1800s according to the research I did on the Internet. And, the older gentleman who sold it to me said it was from his grandparent's general store.

This is the most amazing buy - maybe ever! At the flea market, two hours north of where I live, I bought the little square box. I already had the tall rectangle box, I got it from my great grandmother's house when she died in 1980. Both are hand-carved and obviously made by the same person. Check out the following photos for more details that make it obvious both were made by the same person, probably at the same time. This is my "meant to be" purchase. What are the odds?

What's better than free? Free stuff that's cool! I saved these treasures from a trash pile at the end of someone's driveway waiting to be picked up with all the week's garbage! I am a big fan of the new "in-ness" of repurposing!

Fridays are Mommy & Little D day. And the little man likes to spend them the same way I do - at garage sales and flea markets! Today, the weather was beautiful and so were the sales - 72 advertised sales in the local paper! We hit several of them and I filled the back of my SUV. I only need Big D to go back after one thing with his truck!
I won't bore anyone with the great kids' clothing deals or the $5 Coach bag I got, I'll get straight to the good stuff!

This crate came with about 8 old bottles from a variety of bottlers. More info on them later. The Cold Spring Brewing Company stared in 1895 and went untill proibition. It started up again as the Cold Spring Brewing Company in 1933 and remained that untill 1950 when it became the Hacker Brewing Company for two years before going back to the Cold Spring Brewing Company.  In 1997 Cold Spring Brewing was bought out by the Gluek Brewing Company which still produces the Cold Spring brews.

Old wooden level - 50 cents

This minnow bucket is going to look great with the minnow trap I got at a flea market - decor for the Man Cave

Love this old cake cover, salt shaker, laddle, pestles

This little jar with it's metal lid - 50 cents

Old nail spikes

$2 - I don't even want to say what I paid for the one I bought at BB & Beyond!

More info on this later after I get a chance to research the mark in the base.

Too cool for my train-loving Little D. Very cool train prints. They are very old and are in big US Steel mailers. Trying to find more info. I got four for 50 cents!

A lady I know refurbishes and repurposes old furniture. You will never find anything new as good as a refurbed piece of solid wood furniture. And, old looks better and usually costs less. I have so many treasurers from her. Here is my latest piece, it hasn't made it in the house yet, but it's wrought iron with a barnwood top. I have 17 other pieces she has done for me. If you've been to my house, you know the two benches she's done for me. She also did both of my kid's bedroom sets, TV armour, end tables... She is amazing, but if you want something, plan to wait - she's a lady in high demand. I'm currently waiting on an antique butler's pantry. It's in her barn, she'll get to it.
$48 - not a misprint!

I needed "one more thing" for my fireplace. When I saw it, I new this old pot was the thing.
Copper pot that looks awesome on my fireplace!

A great weekend always includes a few garage sales, sometimes a church rummage sale, and if I'm really lucky - a flea market! Some of my favorite things were other people's things in need of a good home.  Items I just can't pass up? Vintage kitchen tools, wooden spoons, wooden cutting boards, and unique canning jars.  I also seem to have a soft spot for old wooden chairs.
Here are a few of my recent finds:
Ball, Atlas and Kerr 2 qt mason jars! Three dozen old canning jars in a variety of sizes - $12.

Vintage No. 4 cast iron Griswold meat grinder - $2

1957 hard cover Websters Dictionary - $2

This dictionary is so cool! The M section includes a lot of information on General MacArthur.

Gorgeous $5 chair!
